Fellow Cattle Producers,
This year marks our 40th Annual Production Sale. Four decades of proudly offering quality Simmental genetics. Everyone here at Schmidt’s 7N Ranch would like to welcome you and offer a sincere thank you to all who have supported our breeding program in the past.
The “Old Bull” had quite an active summer and fall of 2018. Early summer found him traveling to Bozeman, MT with fellow Simmental producer and long time friend, Arnold Woodbury, to attend the 50th Anniversary of the American Simmental Association.
In September, he and Mom were recognized and awarded the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association “Rancher of the Year”.
And in November, he was honored at NDSU Harvest Bowl, with the “County Agriculturist Award” for Stutsman County.
For those of you confused by “Old Bull”, I was respectfully referring to Dad (Arlyn), as he is still “Herd Boss”! He alone, turned a dream into reality, (with the help of a little Persian gal), and brought 7N Ranch to where we are today. I tip my hat....
Again this year, we are proud to offer a nice set of quality bulls. Utilizing our own home raised Simmental genetics extensively thru AI breeding, as well as top Red Angus and Simmental Sires thru natural service, we are ever improving the mainstay and foundation of the ranch... our females. Their progeny, the bulls and heifers offered this year, fit the bill in our program and we feel confident will work in yours. They are easy fleshing, easy keeping cattle with lots of volume, structural soundness and mild disposition.
As always, we feel to better evaluate our females and pass on only the very best growth traits, we let the COW raise the calf and don’t utilize a “Tin Mama”. The bulls were weaned Oct 22nd on high quality upland hay, then transitioned to a bunk fed ration of corn silage, chopped alfalfa and DDG achieving a 13-14% protein ration for growth. Ground corn is added later for energy targeting a 3.3-3.5 lb ADG.
Heifers are weaned in early November and fed a ration of corn silage and chopped alfalfa with 3-4 lbs DDG, plus free choice oat hay.
No implants are used. They are Bangs vaccinated and guaranteed open. A lot has changed in the cattle industry over the past 40 years....from genetics to marketing.... one thing that has and will remain the same, our commitment here at 7N Ranch, to offer good, honest, quality seedstock, backed by Four Decades of Integrity.
Feel free to call with any questions. Lunch served at Noon. See you at the Ranch on Monday, March 11th.
Sincerely, Doug Schmidt and ArlynSchmidt
